About the Trust

The Anguilla National Trust was established in 1993 to act as custodian of Anguilla's heritage, preserving and promoting the island’s natural environment and its archaeological, historical and cultural resources for present and future generations. The Trust is working to:
  • Oversee the management of all National Parks, Protected Areas, Heritage Sites/Buildings and the National Museum;
  • Establish Environmental Education Programmes for all Anguillians; and
  • Promote and preserve the expression of Anguillian culture;
  • Provide advice on matters relating to natural, cultural and historic resources.

Rita F. Morson - Administrative Manager

Rita Morson has been employed with the ANT since June 2004. Prior to coming to the Trust, she was employed with Weblinks Telecommunications as Office Manager. She holds an Associates of Science Degree from Chattanooga State Tech College in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. In her capacity as Administrative Manager, Mrs. Morson is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Trust Office.

Farah Mukhida - Protected Areas Manager

Farah Mukhida joined the Trust in January 2005. She received her BA from Dalhousie University, Canada in 1999 and her Masters in Environmental Studies in 2003 from York University, Canada. Her area of expertise is integrated coastal zone and protected area management. Previous work experiences include positions with government departments in Tobago, West Indies and Eastern Samar, the Philippines, as well as research work at Dalhousie University. As Protected Areas Manager, Ms Mukhida's work focuses on Anguilla's three terrestrial protected areas: Big Spring Heritage Site; East End Pond Conservation Area; and Fountain Cavern National Park.

Damien E. Hughes - Executive Director

Damien Hughes is no stranger to the Anguilla National Trust. In 2001-2002 he served as the NGO Development Co-ordinator under the UK-GGF Project managed by the Trust. In 2003 he was appointed by H.E. The Governor to serve a 5-year term as a member of the Trust's Council. Prior to becoming Executive Director, he taught Sociology & Caribbean Studies at A' Level, and Geography, English A & B at O' Level at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School. He is a graduate of Morehouse College, in Atlanta, GA (USA) and is an avid tennis player having played Davis Cup for the OECS.

In July 2004, Mr. Hughes stepped down as a Trust Council Member and resigned as a graduate teacher with the Government of Anguilla to take over the reigns of the Secretariat. His duties challenges him to move the Anguilla National Trust to a point of financial sustainability, facilitate membership extension and retention, and promote the Trust as an Organisation committed to ensuring the sustainable development of Anguilla's national heritage for this and future generations.

Since becoming Executive Director, Mr. Hughes has written a new Strategic Plan for the Trust that will guide the Organisation's development and focus for the next 4 years as well as established the theme under which his tenure as Executive Director will be governed, "Confirming Our Commitment To Sustainable National Development Through Strategic Partnership".
